New Year's Eve in Times Square( 08-09)

Spontaneous like we are ( Juliana and I), we decided to spend the New Year's Eve in NYC. Of course we hadn't booked any bus tickets, just went to Chinatown in the morning hoping that there will be one freaking Chinese bus to take us to Manhattan. When we got there, then of course all the buses were full and there were about ten more people like us, hoping to fit in some of them. It didn't look very promising and even the busdrivers said " Happy New Year in DC!" Suddenly we saw a guy who asked us to follow him, saying that there's four free seats in his bus. We couldn't believe our ears. Thanks to God, we got the seats and were on our way to NY.
Wo got there around 2PM and took our stuff to Nonna's apartment. We knew that we had to be in Times Square no later than 4PM, so we didn't have lot of time. I remember dressing up warm, because it was really cold outside and we had a long night in front of us.
We got to Times Square around 4 and it was packed. NYPD was putting up the fences already, so we got there on time. We walked closer as much as we could until we saw a little climpse of the stage. We took our best position of standing and got ready to stand like that for the next 8 hours.
I remember lot of times we wanted to quit. Around 6PM I couldn't feel my toes anymore and really wanted to leave. Around 8PM Juliana couldn't feel her fingers and wanted to leave. Around 10PM we both didn't feel any limbs of our body anymore and really wanted to leave, but luckily we had each other to encourage one another and repeat to ourselves that there's only 2 more hours to go and it's once in a lifetime experience. Darn right, it was!
When the clock hit 12AM and everybody was hugging each other while Frank Sinatra's "New York, New York" was playing, it was the moment I had freezed my butt off. It was really beautiful, but it didn't last longer than 30sec. and gone it was. Over, 8 hours of standing was finally over and I didn't even see the freaking ball falling! I had never wanted to be back home under a warm blanket like I did then.
When we got back to the apartment we both took a warm shower and went to bed. We tried to stay up and see the ball drop from TV, but after we saw our mittens from TV, that was all we needed for a sweet dream and we were knocked out.
